Pousada do Lago is located at 850 meters above
sea level, at the point where the RJ-137 road directs to
Conservatória. At that area, the big
valleys predominate, covered by different nuances of green. Important
sections from Mata Atlântica are preserved,
protecting water sources such as the spring of Flores’s and Ipiabas’s
lakes. At one point of Flores’s Lake excels
the Cachoeira da Floresta (Forest’s Waterfall), with an extension of
75m and three successive 25 m falls, with big “bathtubs”
carved on the rocks.
It is interesting to visit the lakes
and the dams from the area. The biggest is at Santa Margarida’s Farm,
with its
water mirror covering an area of 90,000 square
meters. Also: Leblinas Lakes (Lagos Leblinas) , with 30,000
square meters (where Pousada do Lago is located),
São Sebastião Farm , Floresta and Lavinas Ranch. Due
to
the altitude, the weather is always pleasant, privileged
with a constant breeze. The nights are fresh and the
temperatures usually are very low in the winter.
It is difficult for the temperature to go above. 30º C during
the
day, also in the summer.
In relation to the fauna, it
is possible to find several tropical endangered monkeys, wolves, panthers
and many
other species, such as: macaco-prego, lobo-guará,
armadillos, deer, wood’s dog and even jaguatirica. Among
birds: coleiro, woodpecker, song thrush, swallow,
canaries, goldfinch, tyrant flycatcher, viuvinha, maritaca and
cambachirra. In the lakes and dams, it is
also easy to find calm capybara families. The fish in the lakes are:
traíras, acarás, characins, tilápias,
cascudos and carps. Lately, local farmers are adding pacus and tambaquis
to
some lakes. Those are typical fish from Brazilian
rivers.
